Halfling Blood Bowl Team

After seeing the GW prices for Halfling players, I felt it only good and proper to dig mine out to lend to a fellow player at our local club. I had picked them up back in the 90s when they first came out, and had sufficient minis to make a full squad of 16. I am sure I had a treeman somewhere too, but for now a new one from eBay would have to do.

The team had been undercoated in black, as all my projects are, and 3 or 4 players had a bit of paint on them from trying out colour schemes. Luckily this was able to be painted over as it wasnt particularly thick. So, after a quick spot of PVA glue to stick the sand on the bases, the team was good to go.

Work in Progress

The Finished Result
I had already decided I wanted to do the trousers in white, but the rest of the kit was still being decided on. Then it hit me, I'd go for blue tops, basing them on the colours of the New York Giants NFL team, and Giants being suitably ironic for a Halfling team.

Human Blood Bowl Team

Another team I had bought 'back in the day'... I had got the 3rd Edition metal human team from GW mail order, before its official release, so I had the basic set of 1 thrower, 2 catchers, 2 blitzers (though there was a third in the box once released), and 6 linemen.

Although these had been destoned to live in a figure case for ever, their time had finally come when I fished them out about 4 months ago.

I made a start on the players I had and kept a look out for the extra positional players to give me a full squad. As luck would have it, I was able to pick up a full boxed team, giving me more than enough players to cover every plausible team combination. I also managed to grab a couple of human cheerleaders for about two pounds.

Human Blood Bowl Team
Inspired by the many Historical Fiction books I like to read in my free time, I was keen to make this team a very Roman Legion themed team, feturing heavily the Red and Bronze colourings used in the mighty Roman Legions.

Blitzers
More Blitzers
As I had 5 blitzers, and to follow on from the theme for the team, I decided to paint my 5th / spare blitzer in silver armour, akin to that presented to Marcus Brutus by Julius Caesar follwing his victory in a Roman Legion swordfighting tournament.

It would also come in handy to have one blitzer which could be readily differentiated from the others, in the event of a suitable skill upgrade, such as perhaps the legendary +1 Strength.

Blitzer Marcus in his Silver Armour
Limited by the models for the throwers and catchers, subtle differences were used in the colourings to make them stand out that little bit more from each other, such as the hair colourings, and the wrist bindings.

And of course the finishing piece for any Human team, that bit of extra muscle needed and supplied in the form of an Ogre.

Blood Bowl Ogre
After painting most of the ogre as shown here, I decided that the skin tone just wasn't right for what I wanted. He has since been stripped and re-sprayed. Still currently a work in progress.

Undead Blood Bowl Team

This is another team I had lying around in a barely started state.
I had begun on a couple of the ghouls and the mummies, originally with the intention of going for a dark-blue colour scheme.

Not overly impressed with what had been done so far, the guys were in for the dip!
A few days of soaking, and they were ready for scrubbing, gluing, sand applying to the bases, and a quick going over with the black spray undercoat.

Don't think I realised at the time, but red and white was quickly becoming my favourite colour scheme for Blood Bowl teams, but the intention here was to go for a dark, almost maroon colour so the team could be played as the Washington Deadskins, complete with 'authentic looking' kit.

Chaos Blood Bowl Team

Another partially painted team, that only needed a little time and effor put in to get it finished.

I only had the 3 warriors from the team boxed set, so managed to pick up another from eBay, along with a classic 2nd Edition minotaur. Sadly the minotaur hadn't been very well looked after, and as well as a bent horn, had an unsightly thick coating of paint. Luckily, he was able to be rescued, and re-housed in a safe, loving home :)

Skaven Blood Bowl Team

After spending a month or two selling off some of my excess collection on eBay, the time came to get the brushes and paints back out of retirement. Perhaps of no surprise to anyone who has experience with the Citadel Colour paints range, particularly the initial set of clear plastic pots with the screw tops, almost all had dried up with little or no help of revival while the older flip-top lid post had remained pretty much fine.

One of the last projects I had been working on before drifting out of the hobby was my Skaven Blood Bowl team. This was also the first thing I wanted to get to work on. The majority of the positional players were painted already, leaving the 2 Stormvermin to paint, and the partially painted linemen to complete.

The whole team has now been completed, and I have to say, I am fairly pleased with the results!
